Namit Arora, the primary editor of the group blog Shunya's Notes, was raised in India in the cow-belt city of Gwalior, famous for its fort and the first epigraphic evidence of zero. His training at the IIT in Bengal led him to Louisiana for graduate school, precipitating his great escape to the San Francisco Bay Area in the early '90s. Since then he has played a cog in the wheel of Internet technology at three failed startups and three big corporations. This has at least afforded him opportunities to live, work, or play in scores of countries, including yearlong stints in London and Amsterdam.
During a two-year break, Namit traveled all over India and created a photojournal. Over a hundred organizations, including 15 museums, 25 academies, and 35 publishers, have licensed his photos. His writing has appeared in venues like the Humanist, the Kyoto Journal, and The Philosopher. A frequent contributor to Himal Southasian, he also has a column on 3 Quarks Daily, and has recently finished a novel. (A selection of his posts appears under his name on the left sidebar.) Namit's review of Joothan won the 3 Quarks Daily 2011 Arts & Literature Prize. Contact him for enquiries or comment (email, website, favorite books).
Namit's photojournal spans hundreds of Indian sites, and focuses on portraits, wildlife, archaeology, culture, and nature.
